Vuosisatoja vanha, omallatunnolla kirottu vampyyri Angel (David Boreanaz) muuttaa Enkelten kaupunkiin jätettyään taakseen niin kalifornialaisen Sunnydalen pikkukaupungin kuin myös ainoan koskaan rakastamansa naisen. Kaikkialle levinnyt pahuus ja kaupungin kimaltelevan julkisivun takana piilevät lukuisat kiusaukset tekevät Los Angelesista ihanteellisen paikan langenneelle vampyyrille, joka haluaa pelastaa kadotettuja sieluja ja samalla ehkä sovittaa tekonsa tuomalla toivoa toisille, jotka ovat häviämässä taistelunsa omia demonejaan vastaan.
