Juoni

Sarja sijoittuu 100 vuoden päähän tulevaisuuteen, kun ihmiskuntaa kohdannut totaalinen ydinsota on tappanut kaiken elämän maanpäältä. Ihmiskunnan rippeet ovat yhdistäneet voimansa ja asuneet 97 vuotta Maata kiertävällä avaruusasemalla, Arkilla. Jatko-aika on kuitenkin loppumassa, kun aseman tekniikka pettää. Kaikkien resurssien riittäminen on tarkoin laskelmoitua, jopa lisääntymistä kontrolloidaan. Käytössä on yhden lapsen politiikka ja pienilläkin rikkeillä saa tietoihinsa rikollisen leiman ja kaikki yli 18-vuotiaat tuomitaan kuolemaan. Paluu maapallolle on kuitenkin toiveissa ja jotta planeetan kunnosta saataisiin tietoa, lähetetään maankamaralle 100 kuolemaantuomittua teini-ikäistä ranteissaan elintoimintoja mittaavat rannekkeet. Voiko Maassa jo elää, vai onko se edelleen radioaktiivinen. Voiko ihmiskunta koskaan palata kotiin?
