Amerikkalainen hilpeä draamakomedia sijoittuu 1970-luvun alkupuolelle Los Angelesin viihdetaivaan näyttämöille. Komediaklubi Sunset Stripissä läpimurtoa hamuavat stand up -koomikot taistelevat nälkäisinä yleisön naurunpyrskähdyksistä. Kilpailu alalla on kovaa, eikä onnistumisesta ole milloinkaan takeita.
